The Braintree Police Department provided details on Monday regarding the incident, which began with an altercation between two individuals at a home.

Law enforcement responded to the scene after receiving a call about the dispute. According to police, Peppers is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B drug, which is believed to be cocaine.

In addition to the charges, police confirmed that a victim was treated at the scene, though the extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.

In response to the arrest, the New England Patriots issued a brief statement. “We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the team said.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo addressed the situation during a media session, indicating that Peppers had informed him of the situation soon after the incident occurred. “He called me that morning. I knew what was going on,” Mayo said. “We’ve informed the NFL what was going on and we’re still gathering information. I don’t think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It’s a process.”

Peppers did not participate in the Patriots’ game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday due to a shoulder injury.

Jabrill Peppers, who turned 29 on Friday just hours before the arrest, has been an important player for the Patriots since joining the team in 2022.

After being drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns in 2017, following a standout college career at Michigan, Peppers went on to play for the New York Giants before signing with New England.

In July 2023, Peppers signed a three-year contract extension with the Patriots worth $30 million, solidifying his role as a key member of the team’s defense.

He had played in all four of the Patriots’ games this season prior to the incident.

As the legal process unfolds, both the Patriots and the NFL will closely monitor the situation. Peppers’ status on the team remains in question, with more developments expected in the coming days.
