On Monday morning, Verizon customers across the United States experienced a major service outage, leaving countless users unable to make phone calls, send text messages, or access the internet. The outage began around 8 a.m. Eastern Time, as reported by Downdetector, which tracks online service disruptions. The hardest-hit areas included New York City, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix, with thousands reporting issues with their mobile and internet services. Verizon has not provided specifics on the number of users affected, but given its over 143 million subscribers, the impact is substantial.

This marks the second outage for Verizon in less than two weeks, with a previous disruption occurring on September 30. According to Downdetector, around 69% of users reported issues specifically with mobile phone service, while 21% experienced problems with Verizon’s 5G Home Internet. Another 2% reported a total loss of signal, preventing any connection altogether.

One tweet from a frustrated user, @sabatage, highlighted the repeated service disruptions: “Verizon being reported down for thousands of customers. This is the second time in less than a week that Verizon has a major outage. Please let us know if you’re down as well.”  The frequency of these outages has raised questions about Verizon’s infrastructure and whether the company can reliably support its extensive user base.

This latest outage is particularly concerning for those who rely on Verizon’s services in their day-to-day lives.
