Nancy Pelosi has admitted she hasn’t spoken to Joe Biden since she played a major role in forcing him out of the 2024 presidential race.

During a Guardian podcast, the former House Speaker confessed that she and Biden, once close allies, haven’t been in contact since July, as reported by the Daily Mail.

That was when Biden, after a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump, bowed out under intense pressure from within his own party.

Pelosi confirmed that politics was the driving factor behind her push for Biden to exit. She emphasized the need to beat Trump: “Elections are decisions. You decide to win. I decided a while ago that Donald Trump will never set foot in the White House again as president of the United States or in any other capacity.”

Pelosi’s admission sheds light on the strategic moves made by Democrats, with the California Democrat at the forefront.

Despite Biden’s initial reluctance, Pelosi revealed that she didn’t accept his attempt to stay in the race. “I didn’t see it happening,” she said, referring to the direction of his campaign. She saw her intervention as an effort to get the party back on track, saying, “My call was just to: ‘Let’s get on a better course.’” Though Biden eventually stepped aside, Pelosi suggested there may be lingering tension, given their decades-long friendship.

The decision to push Biden out came after he reaffirmed his commitment to stay in the race through a letter to Congress on July 8.

However, Pelosi was dismissive of the letter, telling The New York Times, “It didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me. It really didn’t.” Biden had insisted he was still in the race to take on Trump, but the writing was on the wall after his faltering debate performance and abysmal poll numbers.

When asked about any bad blood between them, Pelosi hinted at the necessary sacrifices in politics, telling CNN, “Sometimes you have to take a punch for the children.” She doubled down on her stance, defending her decision and pointing to the growing “excitement” surrounding Kamala Harris’s candidacy.

Since then, Pelosi has thrown her weight behind Harris, praising her policy knowledge and strength as a candidate. She also reflected on the challenges she faced as a woman rising to leadership in Congress, saying, “The Congress of the United States is not a glass ceiling, it’s a marble ceiling.”

As reported by The Guardian, David Plouffe, a senior advisor for Harris, dismissed some polling as “horses***,” signaling the intensity of the race against Trump as November approaches.
