John Mayer, the singer-songwriter who’s made waves both musically and in Hollywood circles, has teamed up with producer/director McG to acquire the legendary Jim Henson Studio lot.

As reported by TMZ, contrary to reports suggesting a hefty $60 million price tag, the deal officially closed for around $45 million, according to insider sources.

This historic Hollywood property, known for hosting some of the greatest artists and projects in entertainment, is about to embark on a new chapter under Mayer and McG’s leadership. Mayer, a seasoned artist with a knack for reinvention, will personally oversee the recording studio operations, while McG will handle the rest of the facilities.

Mayer and McG seem to recognize the weight of history they’re stepping into. The studio has served as the creative hub for icons like Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Ozzy Osbourne. It’s also the birthplace of “We Are the World,” a track that forever changed the face of charity anthems.

Despite their ambitions, the duo insists they’re committed to preserving the studio’s legacy. Preserving the history of the building means everything to them, one source close to the deal stated. Longtime staff members can breathe a sigh of relief, as Mayer and McG reportedly plan to keep the team intact.

However, there’s a twist—sources confirm the studio’s name is due for a change. While details remain under wraps, the decision to rebrand the Jim Henson Studio could mark a bold shift.

The work of puppetry legend Jim Henson, including characters from the children’s series Sesame Street, is on display through January 5, 2025 at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

Under its new leadership, the studio is poised to remain the premier recording destination on the West Coast. The pair’s vision reportedly includes modernizing the space while maintaining its unique charm and storied reputation.

This isn’t Mayer’s first encounter with the property; he’s had office space in the building, making the purchase a natural extension of his connection to the lot. Now, as a co-owner, Mayer appears ready to take an even deeper dive into the entertainment industry, expanding his influence beyond the stage.

As Hollywood staples go, the Jim Henson Studio lot is more than just a piece of real estate. It’s a cultural institution—and with Mayer and McG at the helm, it seems set to continue its reign for years to come.
