Federal agents arrested 36-year-old Brad Spafford earlier this month after raiding his Virginia property and discovering what they claim is the largest collection of homemade explosives ever seized in FBI history.

As reported by The Gateway Pundit, one of the chilling details of the investigation is Spafford’s alleged use of images of Joe Biden for target practice, a fact that federal agents say underscores his dangerous intent.

The FBI’s search of Spafford’s sprawling 20-acre estate revealed over 150 improvised explosive devices, including pipe bombs labeled as “lethal.”

The discovery followed an investigation that initially stemmed from a minor firearms violation—Spafford’s alleged possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle.

Court records and a sworn affidavit paint a troubling picture. According to an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force agent, Spafford sustained severe injuries, including disfigured fingers, from a July 4, 2021, explosion while working with homemade explosives.

A confidential human source (CHS) informed federal authorities that Spafford’s activities had escalated over time. The source alleged that Spafford was “stockpiling weapons and ammunition” and preparing for an unnamed event.

The affidavit states, “The CHS observed SPAFFORD’s hand both before and after the event and saw that several fingers were missing after the event.”

Spafford reportedly told the CHS that he manufactured approximately 50 rounds of ammunition daily and had assembled a “go box” packed with supplies, weapons, and medical kits for rapid deployment.

Photographic evidence provided to the FBI showed the box included rifles, ammunition, Tyvek suits, food, and water.

According to court filings, Spafford refused to register his short-barrel rifles, citing his opposition to federal registration laws. The affidavit noted that Spafford had informed the CHS in 2023 of his intent to move “hundred-pound boxes of ammunition” to his property, adding that he aspired to accumulate 10,000 rounds of ammunition.

The ATF confirmed that Spafford lacked the necessary tax stamps and licenses for his firearms and explosives, further solidifying the case against him. Federal agents also identified a photograph of a rifle in Spafford’s “go box” as a likely unregistered short-barrel rifle, based on its barrel length.

On October 19, 2024, Spafford allegedly admitted to the CHS that he owned an unregistered short-barrel rifle, explicitly stating his opposition to federal firearms regulations.

Federal law defines a short-barrel rifle as one with a barrel shorter than 16 inches, a violation that Spafford allegedly flaunted.

Spafford now faces multiple charges, including illegal possession of explosive materials, unregistered firearms, and other related offenses. Federal authorities are calling him a “clear and present danger,” with one FBI agent labeling him an “extreme danger to the community.”

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic extremism and illegal firearms, with the Biden administration’s policies likely to become a focal point in the public discourse surrounding such incidents.
