Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is gearing up to introduce a bold new bill aimed at holding illegal immigrants accountable for the harm they cause to American citizens.

The proposal, known as the Allocating Liability to Illegal Entrants in National Courts (ALIEN) Act, seeks to amend the longstanding Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.

This law, which has been revised numerous times, forms the backbone of U.S. immigration policy, covering everything from visa issuance to deportation procedures, as reported by Fox News.

Gaetz isn’t pulling any punches in his criticism of the current administration. “The Biden-Harris administration has flooded our country with millions of illegal immigrants, fueling a wave of crime,” Gaetz declared in a statement. “My ALIEN Act is designed to give federal judges the power to award damages to Americans who’ve suffered at the hands of illegal immigrants. It’s time for Americans to have a legal recourse for the pain they’ve endured.”

This legislation comes as the GOP ramps up its push for stricter border security measures ahead of the 2024 election.

Former President Donald Trump, who remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, has made it clear that he plans to take aggressive action if re-elected, including mass deportations to address what he calls a border crisis.

Republicans have long argued that the Biden-Harris administration’s lax border policies have led to a surge in crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

One glaring example highlighted by the GOP-led House Judiciary Committee is that of a Venezuelan migrant in New York City. Despite allegedly committing 22 crimes in just six months and having suspected gang ties, this individual has yet to be deported.

The tragic death of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, reportedly strangled by two Venezuelan illegal immigrants, and the high-profile murder of 22-year-old Georgia college student Laken Riley, have only added fuel to the fire.

These cases have sparked outrage among Republican lawmakers and border security advocates alike.

Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council, didn’t mince words when he weighed in on the situation. “This is going to get worse under a Kamala-Walz administration,” Judd warned. “They’ve already made the decision that they care more about their base of support than the safety and security of the American people and that’s why we are seeing this crisis. It angers every single Border Patrol agent.”

Data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection paints a grim picture as well.

Since 2021, there has been a noticeable increase in criminal illegal migrants attempting to cross the southern border, with nearly 13,000 apprehended in Fiscal Year 2024 alone.

These individuals have prior convictions for serious crimes, including assault, domestic violence, and even homicide.

Before 2021, border apprehensions were on the decline. However, the current administration’s policies have reversed that trend, leaving Americans more vulnerable to the dangers posed by unchecked illegal immigration.
