A recent Rasmussen Reports survey reveals that a majority of voters support calls for an FBI investigation into the actions of former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) during her tenure on the January 6 select committee.
The committee had attributed the Capitol riots to President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.
According to the survey, 57% of likely voters approved of Republican calls in Congress to investigate Cheney’s conduct on the committee, while 33% opposed the idea.

The findings highlight significant public interest in scrutinizing Cheney’s role and alleged actions during the panel’s investigation.
The January 6 committee, where Cheney served as vice chair, was a bipartisan group that criticized Trump’s actions leading up to and during the Capitol riots.
Cheney took a prominent role, often aligning with Democratic members of the committee.
Cheney now faces allegations of witness tampering, detailed in a report by the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight earlier this month.
“Based on the evidence obtained by this subcommittee, numerous federal laws were likely broken by Liz Cheney, the former Vice Chair of the January 6 Select Committee, and these violations should be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” the report stated.
The report alleges that Cheney secretly communicated with former Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson without Hutchinson’s attorney’s knowledge, potentially influencing her testimony.
BREAKING: CHENEY REFERRED FOR PROSECUTION
Witness tampering, just like we always knew she’d presented ‘evidence’ of testimony where Cassidy Hutchinson lied in her statements. This is worth up to 20 years in prison. @JSolomonReports @WorkingWomanTV @DBrodyReports @TBatesNews pic.twitter.com/wJZ0nfsE8c

Hutchinson’s testimony during the hearings included controversial claims, some of which were later discredited, such as her assertion that Trump tried to seize control of a presidential limo.
The survey indicates strong support for an investigation among Republican voters, with 73% favoring an FBI probe into Cheney’s activities.

Liz broke the law and if she isn’t prosecuted, then there is no arguing that we have a two tier justice system in our country. It’s that simple. 👇🏽 pic.twitter.com/O0hZXW8sKk

The calls for accountability are part of broader GOP efforts to examine the work of the January 6 committee, which many conservatives view as politically motivated.
Cheney’s criticism of Trump extended beyond the January 6 hearings.
During the 2024 election cycle, she actively campaigned against Trump, endorsing his opponent, Kamala Harris, and even joining her on the campaign trail.
Cheney’s actions have further polarized opinions about her within the Republican Party and among voters nationwide.
The Rasmussen survey also revealed a divided public opinion on Cheney, with 42% of respondents viewing her unfavorably and 40% holding a favorable opinion.
Her high-profile criticism of Trump and alignment with Democrats have made her a polarizing figure in American politics.
As calls for an FBI investigation into Cheney’s actions gain traction, the allegations of witness tampering and potential violations of federal laws remain a contentious issue.
Whether an official investigation will be launched is yet to be determined, but the public’s demand for transparency underscores the lingering divisions over the January 6 hearings and their aftermath.
The findings highlight the continued debate over the events of January 6 and their political implications as the nation moves forward.
