The Democratic National Convention (DNC) went down in flames for many fans when pop icon Beyoncé was expected to make an appearance but didn’t show up.
Days before the convention, rumors swirled that the Grammy-winning superstar would perform right before Kamala Harris took the stage.
This speculation reached fever pitch, fueled by outlets like TMZ reporting that Beyoncé would indeed be the star of the night.

But instead of a dazzling performance, viewers got a big, fat nothing—leaving many furious and others simply laughing at the spectacle, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Fans took to social media, expressing their anger over what they felt was a bait-and-switch tactic by the Democrats. One fan didn’t hold back, exclaiming, “F**king liars,” and accusing the DNC and the media of deceiving the public to boost viewership.
The rumor was likely exacerbated by Beyoncé’s prior support for the Democratic Party, allowing her song “Freedom” to be used in campaign spots and at rallies for the party.
This led many to believe that she would be there to symbolically “crown” Kamala Harris. However, mere hours before Harris was set to deliver her speech, The Hollywood Reporter squashed the rumor, citing a spokesperson who claimed that Beyoncé was never slated to appear.
To add fuel to the fire, Beyoncé’s longtime publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, re-shared The Hollywood Reporter’s denial, ignoring the numerous media requests for clarification leading up to the event.
How the rumor started and why it wasn’t swiftly debunked remains a mystery, but it’s clear that the Democrats’ reliance on celebrity allure backfired spectacularly.
Republicans quickly jumped on the debacle, with J.P. Freire, a spokesperson for the House Ways & Means Committee, pointing out how the DNC used the Beyoncé rumor to trick people into watching. “Notice how they tricked you into thinking there was a special guest so you’d stick around?” Freire quipped. “What do you think their approach to policy will be?”

Other users took to mocking the situation, posting sarcastic videos and jokes that highlighted the absurdity of the rumor.
One post featured a clip of President Joe Biden yelling, “Who in the hell does he think he is?” in response to the unfulfilled Beyoncé promise.

Journalists also had their fun, with some joking that the special guest was there—they just missed it. Peter Hamby of Puck News humorously commented, “I can’t believe the special guest was Leon Panetta. I’ll always remember where I was.” The Cook Political Report’s Amy Walter chimed in, saying, “The special guest was the friends we made along the way.”
Even Republican Senator Mitt Romney got in on the action, sarcastically tweeting that, despite “fake news” posts, he was not the surprise guest at the DNC, but he speculated that it would be Beyoncé or Taylor Swift. “So disappointing, I know!” he added with a smirk.
In the end, the Beyoncé no-show became just another example of the Democratic Party’s reliance on Hollywood glitter to try to distract from their shaky policy positions—a move that, in this case, ended up backfiring badly.
