In a recent Fox News segment, host Jesse Watters and Florida Congressman Mike Waltz raised concerns about the Department of Justice (DOJ) and its handling of the case against Ryan Routh, an individual accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

Both Watters and Waltz criticized the DOJ’s request for an indefinite delay in Routh’s trial, questioning the motives behind the delay and calling for transparency in the investigation.

Jesse Watters opened the segment by highlighting what he believes is a deliberate attempt by the Biden-Harris administration’s DOJ to slow-walk the trial, potentially interfering with Trump’s chances of returning to the White House.

He pointed out that Judge Eileen Cannon had initially set a trial date for next month, but the DOJ requested a delay due to the vast amount of evidence that still needs to be reviewed.

“Biden’s Department of Justice is doing everything it can to stop Trump from taking back the White House,” Watters said. He cited the DOJ’s justification for the delay, which includes hundreds of interviews, pending subpoenas, and 4 million gigabytes of data to analyze. “This guy went to Ukraine twice, was flagged with the CIA, Homeland Security, state and customs, and he tried to kill the president, and now there’s 4 million gigabytes of data to go through. Come on, this sounds like they’re slow walking this trial and praying to God that Trump doesn’t win,” Watters added.

Watters was joined by Congressman Mike Waltz, a member of the Trump Assassination Task Force, who echoed the concerns about the DOJ’s delay.

Waltz emphasized the need for transparency in such a critical case, especially given the potential national security implications.

“That allows the FBI to say it’s under investigation. We’re not going to answer any of your questions indefinitely, and that is completely unacceptable,” Waltz said.

He pointed out that the lack of transparency from the FBI is troubling, particularly when it comes to answering basic questions about Routh’s activities and connections. “Now is a time for maximum transparency, and at least at a minimum, tell the committee investigating. If you have to make the case behind closed doors, fine, but we need answers,” Waltz continued.

Waltz also raised a number of questions about Routh’s background, including his travel to Ukraine and potential ties to foreign intelligence services.

He asked, “How was he traveling back and forth to Ukraine? Was he approached and recruited by some foreign intelligence service? How did he get a serial scratched weapon despite being a multiple-time convicted felon?”

Waltz demanded answers from the DOJ, urging them to pursue the case while still providing transparency to the public and lawmakers.

Watters concluded the segment by urging Waltz to continue putting pressure on the DOJ to provide answers. “We got an election. We got a really mysterious assassin, two of them, that we’re just not getting answers to. The stonewalling has to stop,” Watters said.

Waltz agreed, emphasizing the serious nature of the situation. “We have an enemy of the United States trying to kill our leading presidential candidate. This is election interference,” he said, underscoring the potential foreign involvement in the case.

The discussion ended with both Watters and Waltz expressing frustration over the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the case and its broader approach to foreign threats, particularly regarding Iran.

Watters noted, “Biden Harris are saying lay off their nukes, don’t touch their nukes, Israel. Don’t do anything to them. We got to be nice. They already unfroze billions of dollars for these people. It’s very, very suspicious.”

As the case unfolds, both Watters and Waltz are calling for greater transparency from the DOJ and the FBI, particularly as the 2024 election draws closer.
