Royal Caribbean International faces a firestorm of outrage after revelations that a former steward secretly recorded passengers, including children, using hidden cameras.
Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a cabin attendant aboard the Symphony of the Seas, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to filming minors undressing. The crimes, which targeted girls as young as two, were committed during his employment on the ship, as reported by TMZ.
The disturbing story broke after a young female passenger discovered a hidden camera beneath her sink on a cruise departing from Florida in February. Upon docking, Mirasol was arrested, and investigators uncovered a trove of incriminating footage on his devices.

Among the videos were clips of passengers, including children, undressing and using the shower.
An attorney representing some of Mirasol’s victims claims that hundreds of passengers may have unknowingly been recorded. A class action lawsuit alleges that Mirasol strategically placed cameras in bathrooms and recorded nearly 1,000 individuals during his time aboard.
Even more chilling, some of this footage reportedly made its way online.
Authorities revealed that Mirasol confessed to not only installing hidden cameras but also to hiding under passengers’ beds to record minors undetected. The scale and brazenness of his actions have left families shaken and questioning the safety protocols onboard.
One earlier lawsuit, filed by a passenger, describes a lack of accountability and transparency from Royal Caribbean. The cruise line has yet to comment publicly on the scandal or provide reassurance to its current and future passengers.
This shocking breach of privacy has prompted a broader conversation about passenger safety on cruise ships. With thousands of passengers trusting these floating cities as safe havens for family vacations, incidents like this underscore the need for stringent security measures.
While Mirasol faces justice, his victims and their families are left grappling with the emotional fallout.
Royal Caribbean now faces increasing scrutiny as lawsuits pile up, demanding accountability and systemic changes to prevent such heinous acts in the future.
