Senator JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, has strongly condemned Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear following a contentious interview at the Democratic National Convention.
Beshear’s comments, made during his speech and subsequent television appearances, have sparked a heated exchange between the two politicians.
On Monday night, Governor Beshear spoke at the Democratic National Convention, advocating for the Harris campaign’s stance on protecting abortion rights following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Beshear’s remarks focused on the need to address abortion bans and highlighted personal stories from women affected by restrictive policies.
However, controversy erupted after Beshear appeared on MSNBC on Tuesday morning, where he criticized Vance’s stance on abortion.

During the interview, Beshear suggested that Vance had called pregnancy resulting from rape” inconvenient.”
Beshear further commented, “Make him go through this,” implying that Vance should personally experience the circumstances he discusses.

Senator Vance responded sharply to Beshear’s comments through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “What the hell is this? Why is @AndyBeshearKY wishing that a member of my family would get raped?! What a disgusting person.” Vance’s reaction underscores his frustration with Beshear’s remarks and the personal nature of the attack.

Vance, who has consistently supported abortion access in cases of rape, incest, and threats to the mother’s life, clarified that he has never referred to rape-related pregnancies as “inconvenient.”
As a Senate candidate, Vance had stated, “It’s not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term. It’s whether a child should be allowed to live even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to society.” Vance’s position aligns with his support for state-level abortion policies, as endorsed by former President Donald Trump and the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision. Additionally, Vance supports access to IVF.
William Martin, Vance’s communications director, issued a statement condemning Beshear’s comments. “After speaking on the DNC main stage last night, Harris campaign surrogate Governor Andy Beshear went on national television this morning and explicitly called for a member of Senator Vance’s family to be raped. His comments are disgusting, vile, and should not be tolerated in American politics,” Martin said.

He called on Vice President Kamala Harris to denounce Beshear’s remarks, asserting that such rhetoric has no place in public discourse.
Beshear’s appearance at the Democratic National Convention was highlighted by a focus on protecting abortion access, including personal stories from women who had to terminate pregnancies due to various circumstances.
One such story, shared by Hadley Duvall, detailed her experience of becoming pregnant at age 12 due to sexual abuse by her stepfather. Duvall questioned the morality of abortion bans, saying, “Trump calls abortion bans across the country a beautiful thing. What’s so beautiful about a child having to carry her parent’s child?”
THE CLAIM: Trump has called for an abortion ban.
THE TRUTH: Trump specifically said he “wouldn’t support a national abortion ban.”
“Like Ronald Reagan, I’m a believer in the exceptions, the three exceptions, as you know, and r*pe, incest, the life of the mother.”
