Cody Charles Long, 32, faces multiple felony charges including domestic violence and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer following a shooting incident at a DoubleTree by Hilton on March 22, 2024.
The incident began shortly before midnight when a hotel employee contacted 911 to report that a woman was seeking help, claiming she was being held against her will in a room for several hours. The victim indicated that she had been assaulted at gunpoint by a man she knew.
Upon arriving at the DoubleTree by Hilton, located near Interstate 10 and Chandler Boulevard, officers received a second 911 call from the same employee who was with the victim.

The employee handed the phone to the victim, who told dispatchers, “He tried – he’s trying to kill me,” and requested urgent assistance while hiding in a bedroom.
The victim further stated, “He’s already tried to kill me.” The employee also reported that the suspect was attempting to leave the hotel.
According to Chandler Police Sgt. Ricardo Gonzales, officers responding to the scene found a man matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot of the hotel.
As one officer attempted to make contact, edited video footage shows Long firing multiple rounds, prompting the officers to seek cover behind a patrol vehicle. In response, one officer fired his weapon at Long.
A second officer, who was inside the hotel and had overheard the radio communications, exited the building and also fired at Long after issuing several commands to drop his gun.
The officer’s commands, “Drop it now. Drop it,” were heard before additional gunfire ensued.
After the shooting, police reported that Long was injured in the lower part of his body. Officers provided medical assistance until Chandler Fire Department personnel arrived and transported him to the hospital.
Long was subsequently booked into Maricopa County jail.
The Chandler Police Department released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video, which includes audio and visual documentation of the officer-involved shooting.
The video also contains strong language and graphic images, and viewers are advised to use discretion.
