Dennis Quaid, well-known actor and star of the recent biopic Reagan, made waves at a Donald Trump rally in Coachella, California, on Saturday, urging Americans to “pick a side” ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

During his speech, Quaid compared the current political climate to that of the 1980 presidential race between Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, suggesting that the issues facing the country today mirror those of the past.

Quaid addressed the thousands of rally attendees, making a clear case for what he believes is at stake in this election. “I’m here today to tell you that it’s time to pick a side,” Quaid said. “Are we going to be a nation that stands for the Constitution or for TikTok? Are we going to be a nation of law and order or wide open borders? Which is it, because it’s time to pick a side.”

The actor, who portrayed Ronald Reagan in the film Reagan, released in August 2024, expressed his admiration for the 40th president of the United States.

He noted how the challenges Reagan faced during his election in 1980—such as inflation, high interest rates, and the Iran hostage crisis—bear striking similarities to the problems the nation confronts today. “It’s amazing how the issues of the 1980 election are very similar to what they are today,” Quaid said. “Ronald Reagan came along and said, ‘No, we’re not a nation in decline. We’re going there,’ and we followed him. The same with Trump, with President Trump, my favorite president of the 21st century.”

Quaid’s comments reflect his evolving political stance. The actor, who has previously identified as an Independent, has become a vocal supporter of Donald Trump in recent years.

During an interview with Piers Morgan in May, Quaid revealed that although he initially had reservations about Trump, he ultimately decided to support him due to what he perceived as political persecution. “I was ready not to vote for Trump until I saw what is, more than politics, I see a weaponization of the justice system and a challenge to our Constitution,” Quaid said. “People might call him an a**hole, but he is my a**hole.”

The rally in Coachella provided Quaid a platform to share his views on a wide range of topics, including inflation, energy independence, and border security.

He compared the current economic situation underJoe Biden to the economic struggles of the late 1970s, stating, “Those of you of a certain age here probably remember the inflation we had going on back then—20 percent interest on a bank loan, Iran hostages. We were a nation in decline—that’s what they told us.”

In addition to his political commentary, Quaid touched on personal experiences, sharing a story about helping his housekeeper, Josie, obtain legal residency in the United States.

Quaid recounted how Josie, who came to America for a better life, is eagerly awaiting the day she can vote for Donald Trump. “She can’t wait to become a citizen and vote for Trump,” Quaid said, highlighting his belief that many immigrants appreciate the importance of strong leadership and secure borders.

Quaid’s speech resonated with the crowd and underscored his endorsement of Trump’s leadership and policies.

He concluded his remarks by reiterating his call for Americans to choose between law and order or open borders, between a government that upholds the Constitution or one that embraces distractions like TikTok.

As the election approaches, Quaid’s vocal support for Trump further solidifies his place among Hollywood figures willing to speak out in favor of conservative values, drawing clear comparisons between the leadership of Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.
