During an appearance at AmFest, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) expressed his strong support for Elon Musk’s involvement in a new government advisory committee.
Speaking with Real America’s Voice, Donalds praised Musk’s participation in the initiative, which is aimed at streamlining government operations and reducing wasteful spending.
Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy were recently tapped by President Trump to lead the external advisory committee, known as DOGE (Driving Operational Government Efficiency).

The committee’s mission is to provide independent advice to the White House and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) while spearheading large-scale reforms across federal agencies.
Trump has stated that the goal is to reduce up to $2 trillion in wasteful government spending annually.
When asked about Musk’s role, Donalds expressed enthusiasm. “I love it. I think everybody should be involved in politics,” he said.
“This place works best if people are involved, that they’re paying attention, they’re fully engaged, holding us accountable, keeping us where we need to be.”
Donalds emphasized the importance of public engagement in holding government accountable, noting that a lack of oversight from the American people has contributed to inefficiencies in federal operations.
“We’re in this mess now—$36 trillion in debt, massive agencies that don’t do what they’re supposed to do,” Donalds said.
He pointed out that while Americans have been focused on building their lives and businesses, the federal government has been operating with little accountability.
“Love that Elon’s involved,” Donalds added. “We got to keep that going because that’s how you save the Republic.”
The DOGE advisory committee is a central component of Trump’s plan to implement an “entrepreneurial approach to government.”
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and political commentator, bring a private-sector perspective to addressing inefficiencies in federal agencies.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying redundant programs, streamlining operations, and introducing innovative solutions to federal governance.
Trump highlighted the initiative as a critical step toward fiscal responsibility, emphasizing that the reforms could result in significant savings for taxpayers.
Donalds reiterated the importance of maintaining public involvement and oversight in governance. “The system doesn’t work if everybody’s not paying attention,” he said, emphasizing that public engagement is essential to ensuring that government operates effectively.
He praised Musk’s willingness to contribute his expertise to the reform effort, viewing it as a positive development for the country. “That’s how you save the Republic,” Donalds said.

As Musk and Ramaswamy begin their roles on the advisory committee, their efforts will be closely watched by lawmakers and the public alike.
The initiative represents a unique approach to addressing longstanding issues in federal operations and spending, with the potential to reshape how government functions.
Donalds’ endorsement of Musk underscores growing support among conservative lawmakers for involving private-sector leaders in driving government reform.
As the advisory committee gets to work, its impact on reducing waste and improving efficiency remains a key focus for the new administration.
