J.K. Rowling isn’t mincing words when it comes to the medical interventions being pushed on children for gender dysphoria.
The “Harry Potter” author blasted these practices on social media, likening them to the barbaric lobotomies once used to treat mental illness in the 20th century, as reported by The Western Journal.
Her fiery remarks came after she shared a peer-reviewed study that critically evaluated the outcomes of so-called “gender-affirming care.”

The study, titled “Gender-affirming medical treatment for adolescents: a critical reflection on ‘effective’ treatment outcomes,” was published in the journal BMC Medical Ethics.
Rowling criticized the language used by gender activist medics, comparing it to Hannah Arendt’s concept of the “banality of evil” in her famous work, Eichmann in Jerusalem. Quoting Arendt, Rowling wrote:
“The net effect of this language system was not to keep these people ignorant of what they were doing, but to prevent them from equating it with their old, ‘normal’ knowledge.”
This astounding paper reminds me of Hannah Arendt’s The Banality of Evil: ‘The net effect of this language system was not to keep these people ignorant of what they were doing, but to prevent them from equating it with their old, ‘normal’ knowledge.’ 1/5https://t.co/nPNlm033r6

She then added her own take, condemning the sanitized terms used to describe irreversible medical interventions:
“‘Gender affirming care/treatment’ is so much nicer sounding than ‘sterilisation, surgical mutilation and provision of toxic drugs to troubled minors.’”
We’re all used to the obfuscatory language gender activist medics and their cheerleader, insist upon. ‘Gender affirming care/treatment’ is so much nicer sounding than ‘sterilisation, surgical mutilation and provision of toxic drugs to troubled minors’. 2/5

Rowling further slammed the study for proposing a shift in how success is defined when treating minors. Instead of admitting the lack of measurable improvement in children receiving these interventions, the study suggested “redefining” what constitutes a positive outcome.
In response to a critic who accused her of focusing “hateful” energy on trans-identifying children, Rowling did not hold back:
“There are no trans kids. No child is ‘born in the wrong body.’ There are only adults like you, prepared to sacrifice the health of minors to bolster your belief in an ideology that will end up wreaking more harm than lobotomies and false memory syndrome combined.”

The author highlighted the disturbing influence of social media and schools in affirming gender identities without parental consent. She pointed to instances where children were encouraged to alter their bodies—citing breast binders sent to girls without parental knowledge—as well as the unregulated promotion of surgeries on platforms like TikTok.
Not always. Kids are watching TikTok videos of surgeons selling the idea that bodies can be modified like Lego. Schools affirm kids’ trans identities behind parents’ backs. A certain kids’ charity in the UK sent out breast binders to pubescent girls without parental consent. Many…

Rowling’s stance aligns with the majority of Americans, according to polls. A Washington Post-KFF survey found that 68% of U.S. adults oppose providing puberty blockers to children aged 10 to 14, and 58% reject hormone treatments for teens aged 15 to 17.
Meanwhile, countries like the UK, which embraced these practices earlier, are now scaling back due to mounting evidence of harm.
Despite predictable outrage from the left, Rowling remains steadfast. Her words echo the concerns of countless parents and critics who question whether these irreversible interventions are driven more by ideology than by sound medical science.
