NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell expressed concern on Sunday regarding Kamala Harris’s struggle to gain support among male voters, a gap that could influence the outcome of the upcoming election.

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Mitchell pointed out that while Harris leads in national polls against former President Donald Trump, the gender gap, especially among male voters, could pose a significant challenge as Election Day approaches.

Mitchell emphasized that Harris’s campaign needs to intensify its efforts, particularly with less than a month left before the election. “I think they’ve got to double down on doing more interviews, serious interviews, because what I’m hearing from Democratic and Republicans business people and a lot of men. She’s got such a big problem with men. I think there’s an undercount of the Trump vote,” Mitchell said.

She further explained that Harris is facing skepticism from men across both political parties. “I think that there’s misogynation in all of this, black and white men. Big problem. But also, the business world, they don’t think she’s serious,” Mitchell added. “They don’t think she’s a heavyweight. A lot of this is gender, but she’s got to be more specific about her economic plans.”

This gender gap has become a growing issue for Harris as Trump continues to pull support from key Democratic groups.

Recent polling shows that Trump has made significant gains among black male voters.

A poll conducted by the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion, from September 4 to 11, found that while Harris maintains 75% of support among black voters, Trump has increased his share to 16%, more than doubling the 7% he garnered in 2020.

In particular, Trump has made notable gains among younger black men. According to the Howard University data, 21% of black men under 50 are expected to support Trump, with 72% backing Harris. Among black men over 50, 88% support Harris, while 10% are leaning toward Trump.

The gender gap between Harris and Trump has widened over the past two months and reflects broader trends seen in recent years as both political parties evolve.

According to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll, women in the key swing state of Pennsylvania favor Harris over Trump by a margin of 55% to 41%. However, men in the state favor Trump, with 52% supporting the former president compared to 39% for Harris.

The issue of male support for Harris has also been highlighted by comments made by her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Last week, Emhoff appeared on MSNBC with former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, where a clip from the interview went viral.

As the 2024 election approaches, Harris’s campaign will likely face increasing pressure to address this gender gap and appeal to male voters.

With Trump making gains among traditionally Democratic demographics, particularly black male voters, the vice president’s ability to close the gap with male voters could play a critical role in the outcome of the election.
