Kamala Harris recently unveiled her “Opportunity Agenda for black men,” a plan aimed at addressing economic and social disparities within the black community.
The initiative includes 1 million forgivable loans for black entrepreneurs, mentorship programs, a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency, a national health equity initiative, and the legalization of recreational marijuana to create business opportunities in the industry.
However, the plan has sparked criticism from some conservatives who see it as a desperate attempt to win over black voters as the 2024 election draws near.

During a Fox News segment, Carley Shimkus outlined the key components of Harris’s proposal, stating, “One of the groups Donald Trump is gaining support and has to do with black voters, particularly black men. Well, just this hour, Kamala Harris released what she’s calling her opportunity agenda for black men. The agenda includes 1 million fully forgivable loans to black entrepreneurs, education, training, and mentorship programs for black men, supporting a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets, also launching a national health equity initiative focused on black men, and it also includes legalizing recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for black Americans to succeed in this new industry.”
Karoline Leavitt, a GOP strategist, reacted sharply to the announcement, calling the agenda “smoke and mirrors” and a last-minute effort to appeal to black voters who are moving away from the Democratic Party. “I had a chance to take a look at the plan this morning. It is smoke and mirrors. It is a last-minute pitch to a voting demographic that Kamala Harris knows she is losing big time,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt pointed to polling data that indicates Harris is significantly behind where Hillary Clinton stood in 2016 with black men. “The polling amongst black voters is catastrophic for the Democrat Party right now, particularly amongst black men. Kamala Harris is down more than 20 points from where Hillary Clinton was in 2016,” Leavitt explained.
According to Leavitt, Trump’s gains among black voters are due to the economic stability and safety they experienced during his presidency. “President Trump is making historic gains with this demographic because they had more money in their pockets when he was president, the crime was under control in their communities. They weren’t being put last, ahead of illegal immigrants who are being put first today in Kamala Harris’s America,” Leavitt noted.
Leavitt concluded by stating that the Democratic Party is worried about losing support from black voters, particularly black men and that the GOP is actively working to connect with these voters. “So we are very hopeful about black voters turning out for President Trump. We’re making a real effort to meet them on the ground where they are in their communities, and the Democrat Party is running scared right now,” Leavitt said.

As the 2024 election approaches, both parties are vying for key voting blocs, and Harris’s new plan appears to be aimed at reversing the troubling polling numbers among black men.
However, the response from conservatives suggests that the road ahead may be difficult for Democrats to regain lost ground.
