Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), currently running for U.S. Senate in Michigan, revealed challenging internal polling data for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign during a recent meeting with donors.
In a video clip obtained by Axios, Slotkin expressed concern about Harris’s performance in Michigan, a crucial swing state for Democrats.

“This is… I’m not feeling my best, right now, about where we are, and Kamala Harris in a place like Michigan right now,” Slotkin said.
She also noted that internal polling showed Harris “underwater,” meaning Harris is trailing in support within the state.
Slotkin herself is in a competitive Senate race against U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI).

Michigan, along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, is seen as a must-win state for the Democratic Party in the 2024 presidential election.
Harris’s campaign has placed particular importance on Michigan, which has leaned left in recent years but remains a critical battleground.
This focus is heightened by the fact that former President Donald Trump holds polling advantages in other swing states, such as North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona.
While the Harris campaign believes it can find alternative paths to victory if Pennsylvania is lost, Michigan remains essential to their strategy.

The Biden-Harris administration has faced growing challenges in Michigan, particularly since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza last year.
Michigan is home to a significant Muslim American population, which has shown increasing dissatisfaction with the administration’s policies.
Earlier this year, a notable “uncommitted” movement emerged among Michigan Democrats, encouraging voters to abstain from supporting Joe Biden in an effort to send a message to the administration.
In the end, over 10 percent of Michigan Democrats voted against Biden, far exceeding the campaign’s target of 10,000 uncommitted votes.
In response to this internal party unrest, Trump’s campaign has sought to capitalize on the division within Michigan’s Democratic base.
Trump has positioned himself as a peace-maker who can resolve the conflict in Gaza, a message that appears to be resonating with voters in the state. Recently, Trump secured the endorsement of Hamtramck Mayor Ameer Ghalib, a Democrat who represents one of Michigan’s largest Muslim communities.

Hamtramck, located in Wayne County, has a Muslim population that exceeds 60 percent, according to recent census data.
Mayor Ghalib, the son of Yemeni immigrants, played a leading role in the uncommitted movement against Biden earlier this year.
He explained that the campaign has since evolved from an effort to “abandon Biden” to now also include “Abandon Harris.” Ghalib told Breitbart News that his endorsement of Trump is based on his belief that the former president is better positioned to address the concerns of the Muslim community and bring peace to the region.
The latest polling data from The New York Times/Siena College shows Harris with only a one-point lead over her Republican challenger in Michigan, underscoring the competitiveness of the race.
Slotkin, however, is faring slightly better in her own Senate race, consistently polling 4-5 points ahead of Harris.
Despite this advantage, Slotkin’s race has tightened in recent weeks, and both contests remain highly competitive as Election Day approaches.
Michigan’s position as a swing state and its large Muslim-American population make it a key focus for both parties.
The unfolding dynamics in the state will play a significant role in shaping the outcome of the 2024 presidential election and the Senate race.
