At a rally in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday night, former President Donald Trump pledged to establish a commission on presidential assassination attempts if he wins the 2024 election.

The announcement was made at the Turning Point Action rally held at Desert Diamond Arena, where Trump was joined on stage by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was a special guest at the event.

Trump explained that the commission would be a tribute to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been vocal about the dangers faced by political leaders who challenge the status quo. “After I was — can’t even believe I have to say this — nearly assassinated in Pennsylvania last month, Bobby called me to express his best wishes. He knows firsthand the risks incurred by leaders who stand up to the corrupt political establishment,” Trump stated. “And when you stand up, you bring on some trouble for yourself, but you have to do what’s right. You have to do what’s right for the country. I’ll tell you, we are both in this to do what’s right for the country.”

The connection between Trump and Kennedy runs deep, as both Kennedy’s father, Robert F. Kennedy, and his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, were assassinated.

Robert F. Kennedy was shot on June 5, 1968, after winning the Democratic primary in California, and died the next day.

His uncle, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has publicly expressed his belief that the CIA was involved in his uncle’s assassination.

Trump highlighted Kennedy’s personal history and the threats he has faced during his own political journey. “He lost his father and uncle in service to our country, and Bobby himself was subject to repeated threats to his safety during the course of his campaign, while being denied protection by the Harris-Biden administration,” Trump said. Notably, the Biden administration only ordered Secret Service protection for RFK Jr. after the assassination attempt on Trump, following Trump’s public demand for Kennedy’s protection.

Trump’s proposed commission would have several key responsibilities, including the release of all remaining documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Although over 13,000 documents pertaining to the assassination were made public in 2022, many are still withheld from public view. “And they will also conduct a rigorous review of the attack last month,” Trump added, referring to the assassination attempt on him on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident was marked by significant security failures, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.

Throughout the rally, Trump emphasized the public’s interest in uncovering the full truth behind the Kennedy assassination. “But I tell you, I have never had more people ask me, ‘please sir, release the documents on the Kennedy assassination,’ and we’re gonna do that,” Trump assured the crowd.

Earlier on Friday, Kennedy, who had recently shifted from being a Democrat to an independent, endorsed Trump while speaking in Phoenix. Kennedy announced the suspension of his presidential campaign, urging voters in blue states to support him while endorsing Trump in key battleground states.

Trump praised Kennedy’s impact on American politics, stating, “His candidacy has inspired millions and millions of Americans and raised critical issues that have been too long ignored in this country and brought together people from across the political spectrum, and a positive campaign grounded in the American values of his father Robert Kennedy — a great man — and his uncle President John F. Kennedy.” Trump concluded by saying, “And I know that they are looking down right now, and they’re very, very proud of Bobby. I’m proud of Bobby.”

The rally marked a significant moment in the 2024 presidential campaign, highlighting the alliance between Trump and Kennedy as they prepare for the upcoming election.
